Data Standards

Methodology and Data Collection: The Outcome Survey (TOS) collects data over a 13 month period starting approximately one month before graduation and ending 1 year post-graduation using online survey methods based on best practices. Some variation in this schedule may occur based on institutional circumstances, but only those meeting data collection standards are included in aggregate data with the exception of preliminary reports. Surveys are distributed using email messages during the data collection period. The survey is continuously open over the course of the year. With the exception of appended custom questions, TOS uses standardized questions across all institutions using the system within a customizable modular system. Aggregate data is only reported in cases where the number of data points equals or exceeds five responses.

Cohorts: Cohorts are defined based on graduation date. TOS aggregates data across three cohorts of four months each with the first period beginning in March.

Report Types

Full Report (PDF):

Real-time: The real-time full report contains a representation of the data gathered up to that point for the majority of core and optional questions included in TOS. This information is parsed based on the degree levels provided by the institution. The accuracy of these mappings may impact the degree to which this information is reflective of the data collected.

Snapshots: The snapshot reports contain a representation of the data gathered up to the date of the given snapshot in a static form for the majority of core and optional questions included in TOS. This information is parsed based on the degree levels provided by the institution. The accuracy of these mappings may impact the degree to which this information is reflective of the data collected. Snapshot accuracy may also be adversely affected by launch dates that occur after graduation.

Infographic:

Preliminary Infographics: The information contained in preliminary report infographics is intended as a demonstration only. These infographics include data from all TOS respondents in a given cohort at a variety of stages of data collection including those that may not meet TOS data collection standards. Data collection periods vary for preliminary reports and are printed on the reports themselves. Unlike this preliminary report, standardized aggregate reports include data only from those institutions following the data collection standards prescribed for TOS.

Standardized Infographics: The information contained in standardized infographics is intended as a demonstration of the data collected by TOS as of a given point in reference to included institutions’ graduation dates. Data collection periods are based on the graduation dates of the institutions included in the population with data collection beginning no earlier than 1 month prior to graduation and closing three months (90 days) post-graduation. Standardized infographics only include data from those institutions following the data collection standards prescribed by TOS.

MBA CSEA Report:

Real-time: The real-time MBA CSEA report contains a representation of the data gathered up to that point in the data reporting format mandated by the MBA CSEA. This information is presented based on the standards released by the MBA CSEA and makes use of administrator entered data in cases where this data is present, but no response has been entered by the graduate. The real-time report is provided as a reference and depending on the date of download may be outside of the data collection period mandated by the MBA CSEA. MBA CSEA standards are reviewed annually for changes and updates in order to ensure accuracy.

Snapshot: The MBA CSEA snapshot reports contain a representation of the data gathered up to the date of the given snapshot in the data reporting format mandated by the MBA CSEA. This information is presented based on the standards released by the MBA CSEA and makes use of administrator entered data in cases where this data is present, but no response has been entered by the graduate. The snapshot reports are provided as a reference and depending on the snapshot downloaded may be outside of the data collection period mandated by the MBA CSEA. MBA CSEA standards are reviewed annually for changes and updates in order to ensure accuracy.

NACE Report:

The NACE reports pull information from both survey responses and administrator entered data to produce reports in the format requested by NACE. Each version of the report prioritizes different data sources. Reports will not mix data from multiple sources. Information on how data is used in each version is below.
